Mila the Cakeshop has been open since 2008 and was the dream-child of Pastry Chef & Owner Louise Veldhuizen. After working at Meerendal Wine Estate for two years with chef Wade van der Merwe, Louise moved to London; and under the guidance chef Eric Landlard, Louise perfected her skills in creating cakes and desserts fit for a king. A small trip to Spain inspired & infused the idea of a cake shop, and so the Mila came to South Africa.
Situated in the very heart of Stellenbosch, Mila stands its ground in Dorp Street: the old main street of the town, in which there are many handsome old whitewashed houses, some of them with elaborate Cape Dutch gables. With its similarities to a European~style confectionery, Mila offers a fresh range of couture desserts, made freshly on the premises each day, which can be ordered over the quaint glass counter- of course to be enjoyed on the porch in full view of the magnificent surroundings.
