Having a buffet table – how about a chalkboard runner.

The table below was used as a cheese and wine table but it can easily work for any buffet table. Use chalkboard contact paper (usually used for sticking onto walls for kids to doodle on) which can be bought online. Roll it out onto the table and get your chalk out.
